27th Annual Newmarket Voice Festival SyllabusPublic Speaking - SoloEntry Fee $30 Participants will prepare and present an organized speech on a topic of their choice. Content must be suitable for all audiences. The speech should have a defined purpose and clear structure. The speech may be delivered to entertain, influence or inform the audience. Cue cards are permitted but eye contact should engage the audience. A text must be provided for the adjudicator. 5 minute time limit.
Mime - Solo Entry Fee $30 Own choice from an original or published work. Mime is a silent art form that uses body and face to communicate and express. Participants must clearly communicate character, storyline, location and emotion. Economy of movement, eye focus, ability to position objects and maintain consistency of distance are vital. Simple costumes are allowed. Performance may take place in silence, be accompanied by recorded music or live music. 5 minute time limit
Dramatic Monologue Entry Fee $30 Own choice of a dramatic monologue from a published anthology, published play or stand-alone monologue. No Shakespearean drama is permitted in this class. Simple portable props are allowed. Memorization is required. A text must be provided for the adjudicator. 5 minute time limit.
